Ladies and gentlemen, it is that time of year. I know, no one wants to
think about the holidays rolling around, but it is a reality. We
figured what better way to celebrate the “new” MPC’s first Christmas
than a good old fashioned Christmas contest. With steadily increasing
membership, an active community and just a great friendly almost
family atmosphere, it seems there would be no better way to celebrate
the holidays than a bit of competition.
Now, I’m hoping with such an active community we can get almost
everybody on board with this. Regular posters and lurkers alike should
be coming out of the wood work. What better way to get introduced into
the community than jump in with both feet.
So, first I suppose we should talk about the prizes. Prizes you say?
Well of course there will be prizes for a contest. There will be a
1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place in our little contest. In the spirit
of Christmas, 3 places just won't do. The prizes will be as follows:
Now for our contest. We are going to keep it fun and simple, so that
everyone can participate. Heck, if you know how to do a “Daily Smoke
Thread” entry, you can participate in this contest. The objective will
be to keep it original, fun and even funny, so here is your task:
“Write a daily smoke thread as if you were Santa Claus. You should
discuss your day (just as you would in your own daily smoke thread)
and of course discuss what tobacco or tobacco’s you are smoking. Yes,
use your imagination as to what you think Santa would smoke. They can
be real everyday tobaccos, or something completely from your
imagination. Make it fun.”
Essentially this should be a couple paragraphs long. Not a short story
or a novel, but 2 sentences will not do. Now for the rules, yeah yeah,
I know, but we need rules:
****The deadline will be Sunday, December 6, 2009. ****
The objective is to give us a week to filter through the entries,
announce the winners andhave the prizes out to the winners in
time for Christmas. This gives everyone PLENTY of time to write a
“short” short story. Good luck toeveryone, have fun and most of all
Happy Holidays!!!

And crank up the old think tank.
Hmmmmmm.....................
But it's not all my doing. I'm quite happy to contribute though, I look forward to this contest!!!
so its time for the old drink and think...
Sounds like fun. I'm in!
And just when I was about to get all "humbuggy" ,too.
I hope all the newbies and lurkers chime in. It would be nice to get to know them a little better.
This is a really great idea! It's not very often that you get this kind of thing from an online community. I feel lucky to be part of MPC!!!
Just wanna keep this up top so everyone gets to see it.
what a great idea. I'll be submitting for sure!
We have received our first entry. I am also happy to announce that Greg Pease is contributing some tobacco for prizes. Not only is it great to have Greg around, but he is jumping right in to our first big site event. This should be great fun, can't wait to read everyone's entries.

Merry Christmas everyone!
It really is great to have our little internet town moving into the Christmas spirit, especially after what has been a difficult year for (probably) most of us.
Will the winning entries be posted? I'd be curious to read those.
PJ, I'm sure we can work something out, they are not super long, so I don't see why not.
Don't forget to include your MPC username in the email as well.
This is such a cool idea....I'll have to think of something good :-D
Well my first draft is finished, now time to edit, edit, edit
...for our submission to be confirmed. Would it be possible to have an email sent to the submitter saying that MPC has their contest submission? I sent mine in last night. This would help to avoid a potential loss of the submission perhaps in the receiver's spammer.
As an alternative, a topic could be opened and locked wherein the receiver just lists the names of the submissions received.
You were sent an email this morning at 8:05 am.
I did receive a "Read Receipt". Thank you.
I sent it last night, but I got no confirmation whatsoever...
I sent you a confirmation email. Also requested your postal address. Every person that submits an entry will get a confirmation email, that much I can assure you of. Please check your spam folder to make sure that it did not get intercepted.
bump
Great Idea Sparks! I am so glad to see the Christmas Spirit still lives. Bravo Sparks Bravo.

Gonna bump this up guys. We got 7 days until the deadline, that's one week and it will be here before you know it. I got a handful of entries, but certainly not as many as I was hoping for. So, get to it, write em up and let's get this contest rolling.
What a JOY,
My story is in.
Let the reading start,
and may the best yarn win!
God Bless you all
So here is the deal, I am working on another pipe for the Christmas contest, but I have two, brand spankin new, unsmoked Windjammers sitting on my rack. So what I'm gonna do is allow the winner to choose from either 2 or 3 pipes, depending upon whether I get the third done in time.
So, take a look, most of you have seen these before:
Good luck and I hope you all enjoy... oh and Happy Holidays!!!
Love them both. Nice work.
How generous! Gee, Sparks, I'm really impressed. This really brings the Christmas spirit home here. Thank you for this.
