In honour of Morleyson, I thought I would inaugurate this forum with a review of his namesake tobacco.
Producer : Cornell & Diehl (C&D)
Blender : Craig Tarler & Bob Runowski
Blend Type : Burley (white, cubed & rough cut), Virginia, Cyprian Latakia
Aromatic : No
If you like this, try : Bayou morning, Maltese Falcon
One of my favourites. It is a blend of burleys, VA and latakia.
It smoke full and lively, the burleys hold the blend together, while the VA and latakia take center stage and provide some entertainment up top.
The balance in this blend is great, the latakia is no overpowering and the VA not that sweet, and the burleys not too bitter. It has some nicotene, but nothing to make my boots quiver.
It is a good medium smoke, not heavy like OJK or haunted bookshop, so can be enjoyed almost all day.

How does this compare to Epiphany? It is also a VA, burley, and latakia blend, but with a little bit of perique as well. Is there much difference between the two?
I have a bowl of Morley's rolling right now. It's a dry smoke with bitter edges. The burley dominates, the latakia is, as the Cap'n would say, condimental. Lends a woodsy thick edge. The bitterness recedes as the bowl burns down, giving a more rounded, creamy smoke. Epiphany, by contrast, is remarkably sweet & the latakia is somewhat more to the front. Epiphany reminds me of Grandma's Kitchen (P&C) or perhaps Evening Rise in some respects.
Sounds like I should stick with Epiphany. I am pretty tired of the C&D burley flavor that is rough and bitter around the edges. Completely burned out on HB and OJK and no plans to buy more. Do not need to add Morley's to that list.
Sean hit it on the head IMO. HB didn't do much for me from the get-go. OJK however became a quick favorite, however cannot be smoked all the time. It is no doubt a great tobacco, but to me has turned into something to be treated as a "treat". C&D just has that always "rough" flavor in so many of their Burley blends. It is a bit of a shame to be honest.
Have you tried Safe Harbor Flake (C&D)? This Burley Flake does not contain the harshness you speak of. If you like a Burley in flake form, SHF is probably the smoothest smoke you will likely encounter in the Burley patch!
I have actually strayed away from flakes in general. Call me lazy, but they are just too much work, and when I want to smoke, I want to smoke. Guess that is a trait of an ex-cigarette smoker.
Oh, by the way, if anyone cares, it has been a month with no cancer sticks.
Sparky on losing the cigarettes. It's quite a feat.

Congratulations on ditching the butts! I rarely smoke Flakes for the same reason, but I do enjoy a good VA Flake now and then. That is why my daily rotation does not include Flakes - I'm too lazy. Pack and burn is my motto. I do find that I get the same great VA flavor from Two Friends Heritage and that is not a Flake. Perhaps, that may be one reason why Craig Tarler smokes only Heritage. Can you believe it? With upwards of 300 blends at his beck and call, he says that Heritage is all he ever smokes. His Blender verified that for me! I must say, it is excellent tobacco and is a regular daily smoke for me, second to CBB. Enjoy your quest...
I went through the same thing a few years ago. I went from cigs to a pipe for a couple months then to black and milds and then back to cigs before I finally stuck with just the pipe. It has been 4 years now and I have not touched a cig or a B&M since then. My wife still smokes cigs and now they just smell like shit to me. Anyway be strong, man.
It was one of the first C&D tobaccos I tried and I've kept a pound here ever since. Bob Runowski has said that it was an attempt to re-create the old Blue Boar pipe tobacco, a great blend from the past. I don't find it to be harsh at all and it seems to smoke well in both briar and corn cob pipes. I used to fill a big MacArthur cob up with it and watch football games. I could usually get through at least the first half, sometimes three quarters. I think I'll have to smoke some more before the day is done.
Morley's is a favourite of mine too - a great blend. Particularly good as a first pipe in the morning with tea (sweet) or coffee.
