I got up very early this morning on my day off and am smoking a bit of my rare stash of Stonehaven in a Boswell bent. This has always been too rich for me to be an everyday smoke, even before the big shortage. Got nothing special planned today, might kick back and watch the old Steve McQueen movie "The Sand Pebbles". If the day turns off warm, I might change oil in the car.
to all here already or to follow.... .
Another wonderful day at work starting at 05:00 (it is now 05:07PST) yawn, yawnnnnnnn.
The Olympic season in this area has me hopping and not sleeping, so in order to find out what the hoopla is all about I ventured into Vancouver with the wife and son yesterday. What a mess!!!!!
Walking about Vancouver resembles a shopping trip in the only mall in town a day before Christmas - one is hardly able to walk in a straight line. The atmosphere is great, there are 1000s of people everywhere you go. The surprise for me was in how little advertising and information regarding the various non-sport event venues there is available. At one point we considered standing in line to visit the Russia House (line up of about 1 hour) but decided to go and visit the Canadian pavilions first - well what do you know, by the time we came back to Russia House at 5 minutes past 4 pm the line up was gone because the house closes at 5 pm. Took some pictures of the Olympic flames from behind a chain link fence (the should look great), ate some good fast food at an international food village, did not run into any famous athletes and went home. All in all an interesting experience. Our big mistake was in the fact that we went in there without a specific plan and therefore the afternoon was somewhat chaotic - 3 people with 3 different ideas of what to do next.... I am sure you all know the feeling of being at a 4 way stop sign and nobody is sure whose turn it is next.... .
Well, back to work it is, McC 2015 in a Stanwell Sterling silver, coffee on the side and only 12 more hours to go... .
Have a great day everyone.... .
I am still a bachelor this week. Looks like Kati and the kids will be in Indy at least until Sunday. They may get to come home for a little bit but then will have to go back up for the inevitable operation on Oliver.
Last night was spent with a pint of Guinness and "Rear Window" by Alfred Hitchcock, starring none other than Jimmy Stewart. I'm having to watch it in pieces, my computer keeps locking up because the DVD player is crap. This morning it locked up right after they got caught looking in the murder suspect's window. Talk about suspense! They just don't make 'em like they used to.
Depending on how things go tonight I may be able to go to the B&M for a smoke. We will see - they close a little early on week nights so getting home, getting dinner and getting there in time for a smoke is a bit of a stretch.
Wish I lived closer Preston, I'd come hang out with you. Take you out to dinner and beer.
Hang in there buddy, Oliver is in the best of hands.
Smoked some Dark twist in a pickaxe that shall remain, as it always has been, nameless. Nice accompanyment to the traffic buzzing by.
Most of our snow accumulation has been burned off by the warm weather the last couple of days.
I'm waiting patiently by the mailbox for pipes I have paid for but not yet received via e-bay. Got some tobac on the way, too. (Worry, worry, worry)
Happy puffin'. Smoke 'em if you got 'em.
My thoughts are with you, Preston.
Started the day with Heritage and now, Riverboat Gambler. Will take CBB and POG with me to the office. I hope you all have the chance to enjoy your pipes today!
I still don't understand what is going on with these crazy warning messages at the top of the page!
Just in case you all are not seeing it, I'll Paste it below:

I'm getting this from all three of my PC's.
Just looked up Riley Children's Hospital on the net because as
a former New York hospital administrator I'm familiar with the ones here but not in Indianapolis.
Rest assured that your baby is in the right place at the right time. Riley has the full range of pediatric specialists for every possible event that might occur. They have the knowledge, and the wisdom necessary to care for your child
Now it is important for you to make whatever effort you can to be with your wife and your son. Forget the movies and forget the pipes and make the trip, even short ones to be at your son's cribside as frequently as you can. Your son will recognize your scent as his father and you never want to live with the regret of not having been with him during the fight of his life. Go to Indianapolis!

I think he mentioned that the problem is work, and finances. Which are making it near to impossible for him to be there. I know he wishes more than anything to be at the hospital right now.

It is work that is keeping me here. I can't afford to take the time off to go up there or I'd be there in a heartbeat (or 3 hours which is the length of drive). I have no vacation time, no sick days and a savings account that needs to last a while. The movies and pipe just keep me occupied while I am alone.
I did ask for Kati to get some pictures of Oliver to send to me. I'd like to see him.
Modern medicine can truly do miracles. In April of 2008, the doctors at the University of MO replaced part of my wife's aorta. They told me going in that it was a long shot surgery but today her heart is fine and I thank the Lord every day. Of course it helped that she is one tough, determined lady.
This afternoon's smoke is GLP Maltese Falcon in a Jan Zeman North Cape Rhodesian. This is one of my favorite combinations, a wonderful tobacco in a superb pipe.
And getting ready for WORK!. Lord how I love second shift, but the dogs are hatin' the shake up. Retriever in a Nording pickaxe.
Heck, I wished I lived by anybody here. The only pipe smoker I know is my best friend, but when we get together for a smoke we wind up jammin' with the guitars and imbibing for hours. Then I either wait to sober up or have to call for a ride and come get my truck the next day. Preston, keep it cool my friend and do what's important.
Gotta go do stuff, enjoy all,
Hang on pjc, everything is going to be all right.
I know that if it was my kid and I couldn't be there I'd be getting mad...
Smoking the 2nd bowl of Bell's Three Nuns and so far liking it.
It's the first curly cut I'm smoking and it was a big surprise, I can't tell why but I was expecting flakes, I don't understand the reviews at TR, they talk as if it wasn't available anymore some say it have perique, some say it have not, some talk about the original but the last reviewer says that the original isn't available for 100 years.
For me it taste like VAs with some Burley and Perique with some very, very light topping that I can't identify, but, maybe I'm getting some ghosting from the pipes. Anyway, it looks to be a good "to bed" smoke.
Captain, everybody is getting that messages, it comes from a Drupal (Drupal is the software my-pipes.org is made with) module called facebook-status.
It is complaining about the fact that the current PHP (PHP is the language in what Drupal is written) installation was not compiled with full support for a thing called Perl Regular Expressions. That function is called preg_match_all() all the other errors come from the fact that preg_match_all() is not working as it should.
My guess is that the PHP installation at the hosting server was incorrectly updated, and with Lars being ill there's no one to complain to the tech support guys.
Other possibility is that the facebook-status module was accidentally activated.
Anyway, all the rest is working ok, so I think it's better to ignore that messages.
Preston, best wishes from my side of the country, I can only imagine how stressful the whole situation must be.
My pipes have been tasting funny to me lately. Mostly I need to switch to a different blend. As we all do, I was going through one specific kick for the last couple of weeks, and now I need to smoke something different, just don't know what. Burley have been tasting boring, aromatics I am tired of, the english blends I have are too potent at the moment, and my poor tongue has a hard time with the straight VA's.
Tuff tuff tuff. Went with the cigar route today, Romeo Y Julieta Aniversario. It was good, but a cigar, not a pipe. I think I am going to attempt some McClelland Black Shag after I finish the taxes. But I don't want to be doing taxes so I have found so many other projects to do instead.
Happy smoking all.
mention taxes, lol. I've been procrastinating for weeks now and the accountant is getting antsy for me to get my records together before the deluge swamps them. At least all I have to do is the bookkeeping and figures for them and they fill out all the forms. Seems like taxes are getting more and more complicated every year.
Anyway, guess I'll put it off till later this week and have a bowl of GH rumbh in a Stevenson bent billiard.
I'm getting them too... I think it's a forum issue that Lars needs to look at.
Miss. Mud in a Windjammer.

You really know your computer sh!t. Would you send Slartie a PM and tell him what is going on here so he can fix it?
Captain, I think it is a minor issue, no need to pest Lars about it.
I'm sure that the moment he see it he will be stressing out with tech support, not a good thing for someone that is ill.
See, I thought that "preg-match" had something to do with a pregnancy test for some broad named Perl on Facebook. You can't believe how relieved I am that it is just computer jargon for "YOUR COMPUTER WORLD IS COMING TO AN END".
I'm off the rest of the week, so no plans. Woke up later than usual with a killer sinus headache, so I'll medicate myself and probably go back to bed once the kids are off to school.
Plan on smoking some OGS later on this morning, hot coffee on the side. Cold front blew through last night and dropped our temps considerably. They say that if you dont like the weather in Texas, wait 30 minutes and it will change. Well, after 40 years of living in it....they're right!
