It's a cold Friday morning here in central MO and I'm kicked back with a bowl of Butternut Burley in a Bing's Favorite, my favorite pipe for aro burleys. It's supposed to warm up a little today, maybe I can get the oil changed in the Explorer. Anyway, TGIF. and what's in your pipe?
Expletive laden comments about global-warming mongers will be resisted for now, but don't tempt me...Heaviest snowfall month on RECORD for Pittsburgh; ditto heating bill.
First smoke was Star of the East in my little BBB Two Thousand nose-warmer apple. One pot of 100% Columbian is done, another to follow as soon as I reload pipe.
Fuming in more than one sense.
Could not have said it better. Same here right down to Star of the East in a Savory Billiard.
Some Scottish Cake in a ckr straight billiard.
I have a bowl of Butternut burley in a nording brandy. But I dropped my peterson this morning, and the tenon in the mouth bit broke. As soon as I have some money again, I have a collection of pipes that need repair.
At least I have an excuse for a PAD.
Happy smoking
I usually have my first on the way to work but today I woke up with just enough time to throw on shirt and pants and run out the door. Stupid alarm clock. Oh well, now I have another target for the 870.
This schedule with the wife missing is annoying and time consuming. Gonna try and get some serious cleaning done this weekend and keep it that way, so I don't have to cram it in just before she comes home next Saturday, (ha!).
Celtic Talisman in a KE freehand with the french roast, enjoy,
Penzance in a nameless bent for the trip s to and from work. There'll probably be a little left over for before dinner, too.
...which will be exclusively for CBB. Also have POG with me today as well.
Enjoy your Friday smokes.
today. They don't get to come home yet but it is that much closer. He'll be home for a couple weeks, then we start the chaos all over again when they do surgery.
It is a beautiful day outside and alas I am in a windowless office. That can't be healthy. Bah. It is supposed to get colder towards the end of March I hear. So... Aristokles... I am to understand then that Global Warming actually causes record low temperatures? It seems to be that way although despite all these reports of record lows some self proclaimed scientist said January was actually the hottest January on record in a while. Again, I say "bah".
Guitar Fest is tonight. Got another gig next weekend (this time it pays!) Yeehaw. Side note, I know it is not pipe related, but I have a John Petrucci signature Music Man (6 string) I wanna sell if anybody is interested.
It was Half & Half in the corn cob on the way to work. Not sure if I like it or not, it has elements that are really great but then there is that pg aftertaste that may convince me to pitch the rest of the pouch.
Anyway, good day guys. Take care.
Week-end, at last... Pay day as well, so I already posted the next month tobacco order, a small one this time
- 5 tins (half Kg) of OGS in order to re-stock;
- 3 tins of Three Nuns, a new entry on my top 10;
- 1 tin of Capstan Original (the description says it tastes like OGS and then some, and I know that Lars like it to, so...);
- 100g of SG MVF;
- 50g of GH Louisiana Flake (perique, perique, I want p-e-r-i-q-u-e... 8-);
- one Senior Pipe Reamer (some of my pipes are really in need);
- some bristle pipe cleaners.
This morning I decided to change something, so, instead of the normal VA flakes I smoked a big bowl of GLP Westminster. Yes, after that light re-hydration and a couple of weeks on a jar I can smoke it and appreciate it somewhat, it's not bad but not the full latakia power-house I was expecting. Normally I don't disagree so much with the TR reviews, so, I still think that there was something wrong with this tin.
On the afternoon it was a bowl of Three Nuns on the Albertson Splendid bent prince.
And now I'm having a bowl of CBB on the small Peterson Belgique (here to you Capt.).
Got a present today, a traditional pipe from Romania, more exactly from Transylvania. It looks that, like the pygmy pipe (from Angola), this one is not smokable either. I think it is made of painted soft wood, I'm almost sure it would burst in flames at first light. No problem, it is a nice piece for my growing collection.
I have a doctor friend who has spent his entire career in the non-political science field studying global warming for a living. He told me that the only thing heating up our planet that we can do anything about is, Al Gore!
CBB in my new Hayes full bent egg.
I was traveling today and found myself without any pipe tobacco for the return trip home. I spotted a local tobacco outlet and hoped I would find some PA or something to make the trip home a little more relaxing. What I found along with the expected offerings was some Middleton's Apple. This brought back old memories as Middleton's Apple was the first pipe tobacco I ever tried. I quickly picked up a package and enjoyed a visit from an old friend on the way home. My taste may have changed some, but it was still a pleasant reunion. Savor the day brothers of the leaf.
The problem doing that for a living is that there is someone paying him for doing it.
I believe in what is generally know as global warming and I believe that we are causing at least some of it.
Things like the dead of the bees worry me more than earth quakes of giant icebergs sailing north from Antarctica.
Harvesting so many trees in Amazonia and Canada worry me more than all the factories in China and India.
And it worries me a lot that so many people do not worry about such things.
I worry about the fact that my profession, the things I do to feed me and my family did not exist when I was born, and it could go away just like that.
Dr. Mike says we could all do better with cleaner air in our cities. But, the Ozone layer fluctuates regardless what we do. He says we are headed for another ice age (not in our lifetime) and there is nothing we can do about it. He also says that 90% of the World could care less and will do nothing about cleaner air. Still he insists that anything we can do to make our cities a healthier environment from fossil fuels is a plus. But, he admits, that is a different subject entirely from what is being politically motivated. Furthermore, the third-world countries insist that we (industrialized nations) do the paying for it, not them.
In his science, he has proven that the planet is heating up. However, it is his opinion that it will happen regardless of what we do on local scales.
Al Gore has positioned himself to be the power-broker of Cap and Trade. Any company that wants to sell or buy emission clearances will have to go through his personally formed companies.
Finally, Dr. Mike has worked for Livermore Laboratories. It is an independent think-tank and is not politically funded or motivated. He was working on this problem of global warming twenty years before anyone was even talking about it.
Until Al Gore came on the scene, I never heard Dr. Mike speak a political word about global warming in the 35 years I have known him. To put it mildly, he is very disgusted with the political trappings of the issue and he feels badly about it.
I just want to say that I'm not an Al Gore supporter. I don't usually support public figures anyway.
I always thought that the emission market was another way for making money from the (not very) clean air. I had no idea that Al Gore had done that kind of thing but I'm not surprised.
I still worry about the bees.
More 2 or 3 degrees, more or less 1 meter in the shore line, more or less ozone, all that can very well be natural phenomena and we'll have to live with that.
However I feel that the death of a specie like the bees can be a signal that something is very wrong in the ecology that surround us. I would get really worried if the cockroaches, ants or mosquitos started to die off.
CBB in my new Hayes full bent egg.
Dr. Mike is in favor of cleaner air for our cities and that means reducing carbon emissions and our use of fossil fuels. But, as for the "fear-mongering" by politicians to "save the world from disaster", Dr. Mike has a problem with that as a scientific approach. There is now growing concern that "bad" science (influenced by political agenda) has been discovered. According to recent news reports, Congress has ordered hearings to review the data and take a serious second look at the science behind global warming conclusions. It will be very interesting to follow this in the coming months.
Good morning Smokey and MPC.
Smoking the remnants of a bowl of Walnut in my Grabow Omega. Butternut Burley sounds like it might be the smoke of the day today. Hot Eight O'Clock Coffee on the side.
Full day of yard maintenance and housework.
Happy Friday all!
